Mammillaria

There is no type of cacti that shows a bigger variation than Mammillaria. Here are a big number of easy flowering plants. They grow not too big and in beautiful groups. The ideal cactus for the window sill. There are not so many of such on my window. The reason is not that they are not suitable for that. It’s more that I personally prefer Echinopsis and other types from South America (Mammillaria mostly comes from Mexico. There are only a few Mammillaria out of Mexico. The most southern ones are Mam. columbiana and Mam.bogotensis )

The flowers are normally small but there are a lot. They decorate the plant in beautiful circles around the centre. Only the types from South California have larger flowers.

There are very beautiful white Mammillaria, as shown here. They are ok for the window sill but the green ones are better cause they don’t need so much light and this is mostly rare on our windows ( in Germany).
